Investment Focus Israel Cleantech Ventures invests in Israel-based Cleantech companies. Cleantech refers to an array of software, hardware, and materials technologies related to alternative and renewable energy and fuels, energy efficiency, water resource management and waste water treatment, pollution mitigation and sustainable agriculture. The global cleantech market is entering a long-term upswing, driven by record price volatility for energy, accelerating demand for energy and water in developing nations, the push for reduced reliance on unstable supplier regions, the need to modernize infrastructure in developed countries, and the challenge posed by global warming. Target Sectors The Fund invests in a diversified portfolio of companies whose activities span the spectrum of cleantech opportunities, including both evolutionary and disruptive technologies in renewable and alternative energy, water resource and waste water treatment, “smart-grid” and process efficiency technologies, pollution monitoring and mitigation and “green” agriculture. The Fund invests principally in Israel based and Israeli related companies to take advantage of Israel’s strength in key cleantech niches, its rich culture of entrepreneurship, and the current lack of focused growth capital for many of these companies. Energy Israel has long been a pioneer in the development and deployment of solar energy technology, leveraging one of its only ample natural resources (sunlight) to overcome an otherwise import-dependent energy infrastructure. In parallel, Israel’s renowned high tech and advanced engineering sectors have generated a number of standout successes in key energy technology niches such as geothermal energy, fuel cells, and power electronics. The waves of immigration from the former Soviet Union have added engineering talent in other areas that relate to energy technology. Water Israel is home to some of the world’s leading innovators in the areas of wastewater treatment, water purification and reuse, water management, security, monitoring, desalination and irrigation techniques. Within the Water sector, the Fund will focus on emerging technologies for high growth segments of the $400B water market in which Israel has a strong competitive advantage – especially novel purification and treatment technologies, flow control devices and monitoring systems. Green Technology ICV invests in companies developing environmental, or “green” technologies including air pollution mitigation, emissions monitoring, agricultural technologies, and solid waste-related technologies. Covering a diverse set of scientific/technological disciplines, these areas share the common driver of increasingly aggressive environmental regulations, which have created an urgent need for products that measure, monitor or improve the environmental impact of consumption or production. |
